KONTARA MORPHIS
ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Kontara Morphis is a graduate of LaRoche University with a Bachelors of Arts degree in dance. She is a resilient visionary who has an undying passion for the arts. With more than 15 years of experience as a dancer, arts educator, and choreographer, she is the Artistic Director of K-Theatre Dance Complex. Ms. Morphis’ students have been a part of a myriad of dance performances, conferences, collaborations, and artistic showcases. In 2018 Ms. Morphis was awarded the Transformative Teaching Artist Award, and in 2021 she was a BIPOC Artist micro-grant recipient made possible by the Mac Miller Fund. In 2023 Kontara was awarded a Creative Development Award by Heinz Endowment and the Advancing Black Arts Award by The Pittsburgh Foundation. In 2024 Ms. Morphis was announced as a CSA (Community Supported Artist) with the New Hazlett Theater. Through the the support of New Hazlett Theater, Kontara wrote, produced, choreographed and co-directed her theatrical dance production of UNDERLAND x ALICE.
